Sometimes I think the biggest skill I’m building here isn’t professional at all, it’s learning how to sit with boredom.

Another learning from my time here is how to be bored. How to take control of my time.

We have real trouble sitting still and finding stuff to do. See, it’s so hard to even type sitting still and NOT DOING ANYTHING. We are action-oriented people. We get jittery when we don’t have work to do.

When we do sit still and are comfortable in that, we open ashrams and are revered as the almighty. Simply for not doing anything. Sounds like the easiest thing to be right? To become a world-renowned Sadhu, all you have to do is not do anything for the longest time.

I have new respect for Sadhus.

To be frank, it’s hard to do at work. The closest I can come to meditation at work is to open a busy email on Outlook and stare at the screen. But that’s not the best for my eyes, what with all the blue light and sh*t.

So far I have killed time in the following ways:

  • Learning free flow typing

  • Reading the news

  • Exploring Apple Podcasts (can’t find anything I like, I’m very easily distracted)

  • Free flow writing

  • Research on business stuff

  • Walking

  • Reading a book (I’ve finished 1, left 1 halfway, and am currently 80% done with 1)

  • Talked to family

I feel like a pro at this now. I don’t know how long it takes to become comfortable with being bored. Though I’m glad to report that it doesn’t trigger feelings of guilt for still drawing a salary for not doing anything.

Because I am giving my time 9–5 every day, the onus is now on the company to draw value out of those 9 hours. That can’t be my burden.

I’ve given up the comfort of living at home. I’m based out of my home city for this job, so yeah, if anything, I’m slightly frustrated that I’ve given that up for no tangible reason. I can sit idle all day from home as well. It really doesn’t require me to be in office physically.

On that bright note, let’s wrap this up.

Today’s craving – Kachcha aam, Sukha bhel
